The theme for this year is Expressing Our Freedom Through Culture, which underscores the efforts of enslaved peoples to resist their captors' attempts to uproot their identities completely and highlights the continuing and central relevance of cultural heritage, passed down from generation to generation, as a medium for asserting identity, and for celebrating freedom.
